Are We Ready Yet: Chapter 11: It's Happening

Okayyyyyyyyyyyy so like I promised! Here's the chap. Y'all better enjoy this chap because I didn't do my homework tonight just because of it. So if there are any typos or spelling errors, forgive me. Any who, 10+ comments rule once again. Enjoy.

Safaree had no clue what to say or do. He himself started to hurt when he heard what was being said. He quietly walked over to the chair that Victoria had suggested he sit in earlier. No one spoke a word. All that could be heard was Nicki's cries. TT from the outside looking in couldn't take it anymore. She could hear Nicki's cries from outside the room. She wanted to know what was wrong with her friend, so she could comfort her. She busted through the door angrily.

"What is going on with my friend ma'am?" TT asked Victoria.

"I'm sorry, but you'll have to step out fo-" TT cut her off.

"Don't hit me with that bullshit,"

"Look. I know you care about your friend but-"

"Doc she's okay. Let her stay," Safaree said quietly.

Victoria looked at him with the "are you sure" look, and he reassured her with a head nod. She turned back around facing TT and rolled her eyes.

"Well if you must know right away, your friend is suffering from fetal alcohol syndrome."

The moment TT heard the news her knees began to buckle. She didn't even need it to be explained, she knew what it meant. She walked over to a sobbing Nicki and wrapped her arms around her. Even with Nicki's loud cries in her ear, she kept her cheek pressed against Nic's. TT rocked back and for with her,

"I'm...sooooo sorry sweetie," She apologized to Nicki.

"You were right baby. I should have trusted you. I'm sorry." TT cooed in her ear.

TT's words seemed to be calming Nicki down. Her loud sobs were becoming whimpers now.

"Honey.....Onika.....I know you're hurting, but I need to ask you one question?"

Nicki turned her wet face to look at the doctor once more.

"What?" She asked.

"How many drinks did you have in the last three days?"

"I don't know maybe 30, and a couple bottles." She answered embarrassed.

This shocked Victoria. She wanted to ask why, but Nicki already started explaining.

"All I did was drink. I drank until I felt just a lil bit numb. I went to the doctor, I did the right thing. They all told me the same thing, "I'm sorry Ms. Maraj but you're not pregnant" " Nicki said Mimicking the responses.

"I can only get shut down so many times-" Nicki stoped for a moment. She pressed her lips together trying to hold her tears.

"I knew." She said.

"I knew I was pregnant, but after hearing that you're not, by two different experts I believed it," she looked down at her hands that we're shaking.

"I'm not usually a drinker. I'm actually the last person to drink like this, but this news hurt me. It brought me back to a time I NEVER wanted to go back to. I felt alone.....," the room remained quiet.

"I had this sudden void, and I didn't know how to hide it," she spoke sorrowfully, as her tears slowly rolled down her face again. TT stood beside Nicki's bed, just wanting to hug her forever. She couldn't believe Nicki was hurting like this. Doctor Victoria extended her arm to Nicki's shoulder, attempting to comfort her. And Safaree sat there with his head in his hands. He wasn't expecting Nicki to be in this bad of a situation. He didn't know what to say or do.

The girls outside watched intently. Until, Candi had enough too, and wanted to know what was going on. She walked away from the glass window and entered the room, and Sherika followed. She was about to ask the doctor what was up, but she caught the vibe, and new it wasn't a good time. Safaree took his head away from his hands. He knew this situation was no longer about him. He has to think about two other human lives now, and he had to be the strength and glue So he raised his hat, set it on the side table, and wiped his nervousness and spoke up,

"So what condition is she in, and what can I do to help? Because I need to know what's happening with my family?"

Everyone looked towards SB. Sherika and Candi stared at Safaree. Confused umpteenth time that night, but when Nic looked at him she was shocked.

When she heard him say those words she stopped crying. He didn't hate her. She thought he was quiet because he was upset at what she had done.

Doctor Victoria got up from her chair and walked over to the sink. She picked up her clipboard and flipped through some pages.

"Well as of right now it's going to be a waiting game." She hated to have to keep giving them half assed answers, but that's what it was right now.

"The reason being, we've stopped the bleeding, but we don't know if the miscarriage has already started it's cycle, because once it's started we can't stop it." She said with regret.

By the look of Candi and Sherika's face you could tell they wanted to scream "what". They had no idea it was something this serious.

"Nooooo," Nicki whined shaking her head.

"Not again. Nooo," She rubbed her stomach in circles.

"Not again God please......please don't do this to me," She quietly begged looking up to the ceiling. All the girls looked at each other with worry in their eyes when she said not again. They could remember the day perfectly. When Nicki told them she was pregnant. They knew something was wrong with her that day but weren't sure. When she told them that she couldn't keep it, they didn't want that to be an option, but it's how it had to be. She was only a sophomore, and there was no way her or her mother could support the baby. Nicki was never so hurt in her life. She was in a funk for about a year. They never wanted her to have to go through this ever again, but it was happening.

Safaree's face was so stiff. He looked beyond uncomfortable. This was a nightmare.

"So when will we know what happens..." He said with a shaky voice.

He was about to cry.

Victoria eyes were full of pity. She felt bad for both Nic and Safaree, but she didn't want to patronize them.

"We should know in about an hour , and I'll be back to check on her and tell you guys the status." She looked over to Nicki for reassurance of understanding, but she was out if it. Her eyes closed, and hands still on her stomach. So with that she just left the room.

As soon as Victoria left the girls rushed to Nicki's side, bombarding her with sorry's and "it will be okay".

As the girls blocked her view of anything else in the room, Safaree sat there quietly allowing tears to stream down his cheeks. He had no facial expression. Just a stiff jaw. If he wasn't crying you'd think nothing was wrong. On the other side of the girls Nicki opened her eyes. She built up the strength to look at them even though pain was engraved in her eyes. When she decided to acknowledge them she realized she didn't see Safaree.

"Where is he?" She asked with a low voice.

The girls stepped back, revealing his presence. She looked at him sorrowfully.

When she realized he was crying, something jolted in her. She immediately sat up. She propped herself up on her elbows.

"SB," She called out.

He didn't react, he continued to stare into space.

"Safaree!" She called again, but this time more demanding.

He slowly turned in her direction. He said nothing. His face still flushed with no emotion, but tears falling faster. Nicki's heart was breaking.

"Come here," she said with a warm voice.

He got up and walked to her. The girls took steps back, giving them their space.

Nicki looked up at him as he towered over her.

"Come closer,"

He did as told and leaned closer. She lifter her hand to his face, and slowly wiped his tears with her thumb. Her eyes became glossy again just seeing how hurt he was.

"I never meant to hurt you like this," She confessed.

Still no reaction was given, he just listened.

"Everything will be fine," She said reassureing him.

She knew it was a lie, because she wasn't certain that was true and last thing she felt right now was "fine".

Still no reaction. His eyes wandered. He looked at everything, but her. She grabbed his face and turned his head,

"Look at me!"

When he made eye contact with her his bottom lip began to quiver.

"Everything is going to be fine," Nicki said about to cry also.

"Okay?" She asked him.

He didn't respond. Nicki stared into his eyes trying read him, and before he could say anything he burst out weeping. Nicki lost it and quietly cried with him. He leaned closer allowing his head fall into Nicki's chest. She rubbed the back of his head as she continued to cry.

"I'm so sorry Safaree, I didn't mean for any of this to happen," She rocked back and forth with him

"I'm so sorry."

Nicki's POV

I smiled listening to my crazy friends.

"And THEN, he told me he didn't like me he like yo loser ass," Candi said, as we talked about this boy we both liked when we were young. I laughed at her face, when she told this story. She was clearly still hung up on it. Which means I can hold it over her head for the rest of our lives. Ha! Getting on her nerves is so funny.

"Girl get outta your feelings! He turned out to be an ass hole just like every other young dude back then," I answered with my exhausted voice. I had been screaming, and crying so long it drained me. I just hope th-

"OW!" I said in discomfort. My stomach got this sudden tightening feeling, causing me to hunch over. Everyone practically jumped out of their seats.

"What's wrong?" Safaree asked me nervously.

"I uh...I don't know exactly. I just got this shocking tight feeling in my sto-"

"Ughhhhh," I moaned. This shit was hurting, really bad. I looked at Safaree worried.

"What if this is it?" I asked him.

"What if I'm-"

"AHHHHHH," I screamed in pain. I was terrified at this point.

"I'm losing it....oh my God....I'm losing my baby," I whined.

Safaree was already out the door before I finished talking.

"Doc!" Safaree said running down the hall. He saw Victoria intently looking at something.

"Victoria!" He said louder. She turned her attention to him when she realized he was talking to her.

"Nicki. She's having serious pains, you need to come check on her," He pleaded practically out of breath.

She shook him off and continued to look at this computer.

"HELLO!" He yelled.

"Yes I know!" She answered

"Know what?"

"I know she's having pains, I'm watching the activity in her uterus and stomach now."

Safaree stepped to the side to see what she was talking about. She was watching.

"So what now? Aren't you gonna do something for her pain?" He was getting annoyed.

"Yea...in a minute. Hold on...oneee...minute..."

She looked deeply into the screen, and SB wanted to know what she was seeing.

"Oh shoot!" She said.

"LETS GO NOW! I NEED FLUIDS AND NEW IV's IN THE ROOM STAT!

She ran past SB and into Nicki's room, and he trailed quickly behind.

When they reached the room, tell nurses followed them with the stuff the need. Doctor Victoria pulled off her lab coat and approached a hunched over Nicki.

"Ladies I'm gonna need you to back up," She demanded.

They compiled. Doctor Victoria sat Nicki up and looked at the discomfort in her face.

"Okay Onika I know this May hurt," Victoria ripped out the old needle in Nick's vain and put in the new one.

"But I need you too work with us as best as you can," Victoria turned towards the nurses and passed her the large glass of water.

"Drink this! Drink it now and drink it all! And when the pains subside let us know."

Everyone waited around watching Nicki drink the water. As some of the water slashed on her chest, she finished the last drop.

Victoria watched Nicki's actions intently.

"Shari! GO CHECK THE MONITOR!" She yelled as if the nurse wasn't right there next to her. Nicki took in a deep breath, and looked at Victoria.

"The pain is gone. Thanks,"

It was like Victoria was in a daze, until Shari came running down the hall. She almost fell when entering the door frame.

"It happened," She told Victoria.

Everyone look at her waiting for a response. A smile slowly crept upon her face. She walked over to Nicki.

"Ms. Maraj I'm happy to inform you that you are 100% pregnant. Two and a half months to be exact."

Nicki looked toward Safaree smiling with the biggest smile ever. He walked over to her and embraced her with his chiseled arms.

Safaree's POV

"Thank you so much Victoria we really appreciate it," I told her.

"Oh it's no problem just glad we could stop the cycle. Turns out all that little baby needed was a clean beverage. He/she is already a trooper," Victoria explained to us with a smile on her face.

"I'm so happy for you all but I have to go. Congratulations," and with take she walked out.

"Ahhhhh," Sherika screeched happily.

They all ran to her once more.

"My baby is having a baby," Candi said.

"This is beautiful. I better be the God mommy," TT added.

"Um. No. I talk the least out of all of you. This baby needs peace and quiet from time to time," Sherika defended.

"Both of y'all can take a back seat. I'm the fun godmommy therefore, I'm the best candidate. Right nic?"

"Yea.......right...."

"What is there to think about?"

These girls were comical, but I wanted to be with nic for a while so they had to leave.

"Hey can you guys give us a moment?"

"Sure." TT and Sherika agreed.

"Candi says no. I don't know you like that,"

"What ever you say Edward scissor hands," I teased.

"You know what! You gone regret that!"

"Mmhmm sure I will."

As the door took forever to shut because Candi was play games, the room fell silent. She looked more nervous than happy.

"What wrong?" I asked.

"Nothing....I'm overjoyed, but something is still missing," She said sheepishly.

"Safaree....what do we do from here?"

"It's up to you. Nic, I don't want you to ever feel that type of low ever again. It doesn't matter what we go through, I never want you to feel a lone. I'm not going anywhere. I'm here for you and our baby. I never meant to hurt you or come off insensitive. I just wa-"

She cut me off, putting her soft finger on my lips.

"Stop talking. My turn."

"Safaree I don't want to talk about what I did wrong or what you did wrong. I just need you to know that I love you and I'm honored to be the mother of your child. You mean the absolute world to me and-"

I put my hand up.

"Opp! My turn," I said mimicking her.

She side eyed me. I chuckled.

"I love everything about you Nic. And I love making love to you. And ain't nothing fake about the love we make. That baby in there is clear proof of that. I'll play by your rules if you don't want to do this, but Nic I wanna be with you, I wanna try and make this thing work. For our sake, and our child's." I said revealing my heart.

She just looked at me not phased at all by what I just said.

"You're so beautiful you know that? Everytime I just sit and take in your presence I just stare in awe. Safaree I love you too, and I love when you make love to me, I feel so important and alive in those moments, and there isn't anywhere I'd rather be, than in your presence. So yes fool, be with me. Be with me and promise not to let go."

This is the woman that I love. I raised my hand to the side of her face, and gently pulled her in for a kiss. When I felt her smooth warm lips touch my lips my insides became putty. I swear it's like I'm on cloud 9 when we touch. Our lips locked together and moved so in sync. She slid her tongue in my mouth, and I accepted it gladly, and sucked on it slowly. I couldn't believe we were finally going to try this thing out. I couldn't wait to see what time holds for us.
